Rhythm of Lines Exhibition (for Audi) Website

www.rhythmoflines.co.uk

I love the loading bar and the time bar. It is so simple, but I really appreciate it being up on top of the screen instead of the center of the page. All of the movement ad reaction to the mouse pointer is cool, but it also kind of makes me feel seasick or disoriented while trying to navigate around the page.

German Converse Site

This navigation looks more like something that we could do after this class. Maybe. One detail I really like is the fact the cursor changes color as you roll over the various rectangles. (After you close the talking guy).

Audi R8 Microsite

I have found myself drawn to circular navigation lately; probably because most navigation these days and in the past has been linear. I like this a lot, especially the way the type animates when you scroll along the wheel. However, quite a bit of the type is upside down, so hard to read. Also, there is probably too much type visible all at once and the navigation is overly complicated, in my mind. But it still is pretty cool and obviously, a lot of skill and time went into it.

Plus the car is pretty...^_^

White Void Website

I thought this was an interesting website, and somewhat applicable to my current project. Although, I am not sure I could make it look quite as cool with my current flash skills. ^_^

Perspective: A New Home Data Management System

This project is a collaboration with my brother, Brandon Salmon, who is creating a new data management system for his PhD at Carnegie Mellon with the Parallel Data Lab. He has been working on this project with other computer engineers and programmers, and companies such as Intel and Seagate. I thought it would be a great thing for me to help him out, as he needs an interface, and it would help me to get experience. And I also just think the project is pretty cool. ^_^

Perspective: A Home Data Management System

Project Summary

This project consists of an interface for a fluid, customizable backup system. The user can pick and choose which files can be backed up on which electronic device (such as computers, mp3 players, stereo, or DVR) that are connected on a network. This is a completely new data management system that could streamline file transfers between devices and make a user’s data more secure in case one of those devices is compromised.

Target Audience

The target audience for this project is quite large; it consists of anyone who owns at least one computer and several other electronic devices such as an mp3 player, stereo, or DVR. It could be a family with several computers and electronic devices among the members, a single person who wants to keep backups of his or her important data, or small network of electronic devices.

Objectives

The objective of the interface is to be intuitive and simplistic enough for someone who is not very comfortable with computers and flexible enough for someone who is. The interface should communicate which folders of information are on which electronic devices, and let the user know how many copies of a particular group of files are on the network.

Look & Feel

The look should be clean and simplistic, but it should also be engaging. The colors will be fairly neutral with small pieces of bright color to create emphasis, so that it will be easy to read and also blend fairly well with existing operating systems.

2BItalia Website

www.duebiitalia.it

I found this website on the Favourite Website Awards, and fell in love with the simplistic animation used to showcase a simplistic, but extremely well designed, Italian bathroom furniture company. I really like the way the boxes almost emerge from some black reflective surface, which gives dimension to otherwise flat boxes. It has a similar aesthetic to the new Apple OS, but it is a bit more flashy and quick.
